Jeez Zib, you don't seem to have good luck with guilds... then again, neither do I, LOL. Your theme song should be Queen - Another One Bites The Dust.

Btw, hows the CU now that you've played in it for a while? Worth checking out, even for someone starting from scratch?

Zib

Odd, Friday it took me to an AT&T page saying something to the effect of, "We have redirected you here as the site you were trying to reach had been tied to identity theft," or something. *shrug* that it works now.

Heh, but, yeah, Falln has, er, fallen to the wayside, too. It was a victim of the apathy that was running rampant this year in the game. I personally haven't played much on Tarquinas since the end of January or whenever I decided to not renew. I gave most of my stuff away there, and also, most of the folks I knew there had moved on. Been hanging around Kettemoor mostly of late.

The CU? Hmmm...depends. If you like to solo, then it's pretty much taken that away from you insofar as grinding goes. For instance, my Kettemoor toon that's MBH/MCommando, level 80, can't do a level 78 mission for faction points without being stomped into the ground by the three stormtroopers. The only way I've been able to "solo" is to play two toons at once. Still, even that is sketchy due to the new AI. For instance, if toon one is firing away, toon two can't sit there and heal it. As soon as toon 2 heals it, all attacking mobs start attacking toon 2. They'll keep attacking toon 2 until toon 1 heals toon 2 or does some sort of taunt or other thing to make them attack it again. Kinda maddening, really.

But, if you like grouping, then it's right up your alley. Being in a big group killing things is a very fast way to gain XP, from what I understand. For instance, if you pop a critter once, you get "your" full XP for that kill. For a level 5 toon in a group with a level 80 toon fighting level 78 mobs, that equates to 472 XP. For my L17 toon with a L80 toon fighting L78 mobs, that equates to 872 XP. I understand that some folks are earning upwards of 1.5mil XP per night. From a combat standpoint, groups are a lot of fun. It's just finding one that's tough. My problem with groups is that I rarely have a large enough block of time to sit down, hook up with some folks, and do something.

I just picked up JTLS for my #2 account and will get RoTW for that one since it's the one I'll likely keep long term. Acct #1 is currently on renewal but not sure if I'll keep it, and Acct #3 is still not on renewal, though I have access to it until August. So, I'll let you know how that is. Supposedly, it's pretty good if you're into questing.

Hmmm... Well, its the soloing thing that gets me. Why do these designers all think I have this mountain of available free-time? When I play a game, I have an hour, maybe two, to sit down and play. Groups are all well and good, but... I don't have the time to piss away on finding one & then doin all that crap. =(

Thanks for the info on CU. I still think I might log in to another server & give it a go before my last account goes in-active in July. I don't plan on buying the latest upgrade tho... Perhaps if SWG switched to the subscription model Guild Wars has gone to, then maybe I'd be enticed to continue playing. I was just talking to a buddy of mine here at work that says that's a pretty good game (& he doesnt play MMOs).

Cant say I feel like starting over in SWG... but, I am curious to try out the CU for myself.

Well, if you would like, if you pick Bloodfin, Kettemoor, Infinity, or good-ole Tarq I can run with you a bit till you decide what you think of it. Starting out fresh on a new server will make it tough to level since you only have 1K of credits to begin and that first skill box still costs 1K. :/

Can't seem to make any money on the ground. Space would be a quick way to earn cash on the noobish level. Reason being - yep - can't seem to solo. I have two L10 toons on Bloodfin, both 0044 brawler on their way to novice pikeman, and they have serious trouble with a L8 mission spawn. And...that darn thing only pays 400 credits! Can do a duty mission in space and pull in 20X that in a shorter amount of time.

Problem with the low levels - weapon availability. They addressed one of my biggest complaints with SWG - too easy to get access to the good weapons. Under the old system, by the time you got to the third or fourth box in marksman/brawler, you had your "good" weapon that would hold you on the grinding. Now, it forces you to use the low-level weapons. I agree with it, but sheesh...makes me realize what I'm missing. For instance, both of my L10 toons are 'stuck' with a 40 damage per second metal pole until they get to L16 when they can upgrade to a lance that does about 100 DPS, I think. But, it's kind of a caveat. The higher your level, the higher mob you have to find to earn XP so the higher DPS kinda is negated.

(For comparison sake, Zib @ L80 can get about 430DPS with his T21. Most I've seen is my Mcommando with 450DPS. Other folks are finding ways to get higher DPS weapons, though. However, you can "do" more with weapons now. It's not just about the damage output like it used to be.)

Another twist - you have to be an elite combat profession to wear armor, and then you're limited. For instance, commandos, BH's, and squad leaders get to wear assault armor (composite), and carbineers and swordsmen get to wear padded, and riflemen/pistoleers get to wear recon (ubese & tantel), etc.

As you can see, I'm a bit frustrated with the ground game atm which is why I've decided to take to the stars for awhile and get my YT1300. :)

All that said...there is a potential for more fun to be had than before. I always seemed to have the most fun when grouped up with you all and others. But, the time thing again. For a good group experience, really need those 2-3 hours of uninterrupted playtime. That's the key for me, really, I can find the time. It's just the uninterrupted time that's hard to come by on my side.

Zib, given that we used to play at somewhat similar hours, which servers that you're on seem to be the most active? One of the things that pissed me off towards the end while playing on Tarq was I could never find a damn doc anywhere to heal me when I'd fubar'd myself up in space.

The time thing is an issue for me... I can usually get several uninterupted hours on mondays, thursdays & saturdays, but thats bout it. I rarely turn on the computer on nights I deliver pizza. Of course, Im thinking once things settle down a bit with the new job, I might be able to drop a night or two during the week, which would help me out in several ways... more free time for relaxation & more free time to learn crap at home (like maybe get up to speed on php and actually do something with this website).

The only thing I had left that I really wanted to do in SWG was pickup a YT1300... someday maybe... =)

Zib

Kettemoor probably the best option. I have a ton of ship parts you can borry not to mention an extra dunelizard fighter (tier 1) b/c I ended up buying both styles and going with #2.

I also have a master tailor/master BE toon so I can make you some melee/ranged defense clothing which should help you since you can't wear armor. Plus, have Eeka there as master doc still to cure you of your ailments should you need. Pretty well populated too, at least, relative to Tarq.

One thing tho, the folks I know there are Rebel. It's my "imma Rebel" server. :)

And...plenty of creds to get you set up. Still have 25M I think or thereabouts. Used to be 54M. Doh! :D

05-23-2005, 05:54 PM
ROTFL... I was thinking I'll probably go neutral/Reb if I try again. Not that I don't long to be a true imperial, but a change of pace would be nice should I pickup the game again. Yanno, something like han or something... speaking of which, did they ever fix smuggling?

Zib

Alright, so I get JTL for acct#2 (Aessena) and am currently working toward my first tier 2 box going up the RSF tree. (My ship is a dunelizard, style 2, and I painted it all black so it kinda looks like a stealth fighter.)

Anyhow, so I dock with the naboo space station, and the comm operator tells me that an Imperial freighter is under attack by Rebels and in need of help and that I should go assist immediately. My first thought is, wait, I'm a Rebel Combatant. Can I do that? I figure, wth, and accept the mission.

I go to a WP where I have to kill 5 tier 2 Xwings. No biggie...but then it sends me to Yavin where I have to fight off another 20 fighters or so. They're mostly tier 2 so it's just a matter of time. After I killed the last one, I get a message from the Imperial space station thanking me for my heroic efforts and to report to the emperor's retreat for my reward.

OK, I think, I'm a Rebel Combatant (which means NPCs shoot you on sight but players cannot attack you), can I do that?

So, I go to the retreat, taking care to avoid the NPCs there. I sneak up to the mission contact and converse with him. I get paid 10K, and then he tells me I may enter the retreat.

I think, I'm a Rebel combatant, can I do that?

LOL, sure enough, next thing I know I'm standing next to the Emperor. He and his guards con aggro to me, but since they're static they didn't attack. That was funny enough, but the Imps inside the retreat were the funniest. They were really, really confused! Kept getting tells, "R U a Rebel?" and so forth. So, I messed with em, naturally.

I tried to converse with the Emperor, but he only said, "Sorry, I only talk to those employed by the Empire," or something.

(BTW, Eye, my toons are Eeka, Aessena, and Aplek. If you create a toon here, send me an email with your name.)

Oh I am such a sucker.

Picked up Guild Wars this weekend cuz a buddy of mine I work with has it. Not too sure what I think of it yet (only have an hour or so invested). Im thinking it'll be a nice diversion on occasion (and the nice thing is no monthly fee to worry about).

Sooo... I just went to go see EP III again tonight and on the way home was kinda missing playing SWG. Sooo, thought I'd go gander through the forums for a bit while it downloads its latest patches (still got 5 min remaining btw)... and then I read the crap about the rage of the wookies thing & before you know it (and 25 bucks later) it now shows "expansion activated" on my SWG interface thingy.

I've got some work to do around the house tomorrow, but Im going to head over to Kettemore (or however you spell it) & give this shit a shot again. Never was real good at the combat crap so I think thats all Im going to focus on this time around...

I'll prolly post what char name I come up with & see about gettin ahold of yah in game. I tell yah, SOE would sure make me happy if they got rid of the single char per account bullshit... Then at least I could try a few different things out.

(edit: my latest creation on kettemoor or whatever is "Yukon Dustrunner" kinda catchy =) )

Zib

Hehe - Yukon. Fitting. :)

Cool, Eye. I'll toss you some creds and give you access to my houses with WP's and all. Aplek's house has various manners of clothing - feel free to grab what you like or request what you want. The weapons/ship parts are in Aessena's.

I'll *try* to pop in tonight, but my wife's been making those, "You're playing that game too much," hints again. Might be stuck on hubby duty. hehe. I tried the, "But it was double XP dear!" approach but it didn't fly.

Other contacts that I'm sure would be happy to assist:

Ti'arda
Pawlin
Aldav (Bonian from Tarq, not sure if you ran across him or not)
Ockiri
Kayle' (not sure on the spelling)

We're based out of Crimson Flats on Talus.

So how hard is it to level with this new system? I really don't want to start over, but Tarq is a dead server. Freaking can't find anything I need. So I might hop ship... but I aint going REB! But nuet works for me.

eyelleye

Im still planning on maintaining toons on Tarq... put in a bid for 10 mil creds last night on that server. Right now, Im planning on playing on both, mostly because I was able to respec 'Eye' to something that might be a bit entertaining... that and I've got a lot there. I figure 10 mil creds will keep my structures up and running for a long time, so thats why I did that one. =) Less to worry about.

Zib

How to level on the ground? In short, find the biggest group you can get and make sure you hit every mob at least once, and you'll get your full XP for that. Solo ground levelling is impossible now, from what I've seen. OK, maybe not impossible, but so inefficient/slow that groups are the only way.

Space? Same as before. Solo tiers 1 & 2, maybe solo tier 3, probably will need help for tier 4, bring a group to kill the corvette for your ace (not that I've done that - from what I've read only).

My toon plans are to basically mothball Zibeon & Tadi (Eikia has been moved to Bloodfin under the name Yevke). I'll probably finish the Imperial pilot tree, but after that...dunno. After seeing how many people are on Bloodfin/Kett relative to Tarq - not sure how much I'll be "living" there.

Eeka/Aessena/Aplek on Kett I'll probably keep around awhile. Need to pilot-Ace Eeka/Aessena and hope to get a BE clothing business up and running with Aplek.

Naxonai/Sadac/Yevke are my new or transferred Bloodfin toons. Just starting here, but the population looks very promising. TONS of noobs coming in with the RoTW package. Mos Eisley is packed! Turns out my brother is in an Imperial guild here. (hehe - shows you how often we find time to talk)

Kinda makes you wish they'd consolidate a couple of the not so busy servers (like tarq) for free dont it? I tell yah, if there was an option to move chars & at least keep your moolah, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Tarq was a bit busier last night than what I had seen before, which was kinda nice. At least Theed was a bit busier (granted not as busy as kettemoor was when I was doin some newb shit there). Also something new I figured out... no more looking for frickin docs to get healed, just go sit in the med center for a short bit. Finally my biggest bitches have been resolved. Yahoo!

Cray
06-01-2005, 11:13 AM
Really, no more need to wait for docs? Yeah I really don't want to start over, not going to invest that type of time in SWG atm. So I'll stick with tarq.

Hey Zib you every talk with mono? Don't remember if its a he or she, but do remember the name from back in the hayday. Felt bad cause we had a 15 or 20 minute BS session the other day, and I had no idea why it (see above) had even sent me a tell lol. Boskos sounds like he's about ready to commit suicide from the short conversation we had the other day.

Does Hethen still play or Raken?

Will someone direct me to where I can get a freaking TIE fighter built or the New Imp assault armor! Freaking bazzar system is strange now. I guess easier to use, but still haven't found a Tie Fighter or the new armor.

But I'm only bringing Cray back, which sucks cause I need to log Calroth and Arkaon back on so I can send there credits to Cray. Yeah its only be 30 extra bucks for a month, but because of a certian situation thats arose... Lets just say I need to save every dollar I can.

Well enough sleep deprived rambeling from me... wait one more. You know you want to go shipwright and armorsmith with camber Eye :p

Zib
06-01-2005, 11:27 AM
I have a Tie Fighter and Tie/In fighter deed on Tadi right now. I'll put them in my house in Iziz and send you the WP. Save them for me when you're done as I'm going to reuse them. I am going to take Tadi up the Black Epsilon branch eventually, but not until I finish my other 4 pilots first.

As far as shipwrights go...hmmm...not sure on that one. On Kett they're easy to find, Bloodfin less so, Tarq - haven't tried. Might check out the Trade forums on www.starwarsgalaxies.net to see who is hawking their wares?

Haven't talked with Mono much since I left Oasis to join Falln. Kinda wishing I hadn't done that now that I see that Oasis is still there and Falln - er - isn't. The big news with him is that he's at 19999 posts on the forums. I'm at 476. Hehe.

Hethen quit and is ebaying his three accounts. So, if you see Hethen, it's probably not the same one. Raken pops in every now and again, but I never seem to get to the /tell tarquinas.raken command up before he's logged off.

I respec'd Camber as a Shipwright, but didnt have enough points to get master (just 3 boxes shy counting the master box). Played a little bit with the Shipwright stuff on monday night, but need to do some reading to figure out what the hell Im supposed to be doing with it. I figure with my Architectual experience, it shouldnt be that difficult to figure out.

I saw Raken & Boskos on for a bit when I played on... Monday I believe. Was busy trying to move crap around & figure out what I was doing, so didnt talk to em at the time.

Cray, when I get my 10 mil creds sent to me (small ebay snafu regarding echecks means I have to wait 3 days for payment to clear) I can send you some creds on tarq. Im planning on saving a lot of em to pay for structures n crap so I dont have to worry about them decaying for a while (a long long while). Hell, I might even plant one of my guild halls for a house with that many... hehe. =)

Weds eve, eh? Lemmie know by posting here or dropping me an email if you'll be online, and I'll hop on with you. Now's the time to do it as double XP is back on until 7/5!

On both Tarq and Kettemoor, I've figured out a combination to be able to "solo" L78 to L82 lairs. Solo in that I have to use both PCs to make it work, ROFL, but it does work! Was working with a L7 person on Tarq the other day, and in two lairs or a little less than 1 hour, she netted about 26K XP. ~600XP per mob and 6K per lair. Make that 2X, and you can get to an elite prof in no time. So, guess what I'm saying is, I'll help ya level. :)

eyelleye
06-27-2005, 11:10 AM
Sweet. My Tarq toon needs work on pistoleer I think... don't have much in the way of armor or weps on it, cept one good one I think. Eye has become a master smuggler now, so when they roll out the coming smuggler changes, I'll be ready for that =)

My kettemoor char is still pretty newbish tho. I tried taking on some reb missions my level the other night & managed to do a couple of em. Was a real pain in the buttox trying to find a rebel recruiter (finally found one listed in some db online, forget where).

I'm off tonight, but not sure if I'll play SWG or WoW... probably both. I havent played much of anything the past week, been kinda busy n all... but if they've turned back on the double xp on SWG, I think I'll be trying to take advantage of that. =)

Zib
06-27-2005, 01:04 PM
No sweat on the armor. The mobs won't (typically) attack you cause they'll be busy attacking the person doing the most damage to it. Basically what I do is have my rifleman stand at 60m, knock it down, hit it with the high damage shot, then root it in place (stopping shot), then continue to pound on it. By the time the root releases and it charges again, it's health is at about 50%. Then, I bring in the other toon if it's melee (or if its a ranged toon just have it firing all the while). Makes for easy pickings. The only time it gets interesting is if one additional mob joins the fray. But, that doesn't happen too often.

Only catch is that you have to grab bol, thune, piket, or other lairs that don't aggro.

Nice thing is, all you have to do is damage the mob/lair once to get full XP, like in JTL.

Tarq or Kett is cool with me. Tarq preferably as I need to work on Tadi's pike XP, but, either way.

Well, makes no nevermind to me. My Kett character is mostly for re-learning purposes... that & to just have fun whenever. Tarq is where all my moolah is & where I have the most invested... but its nice to have the choice of what I want to do. Just wish there was a way to have notification across all servers if someone logs on & to what server, yanno? At least that way, if Im screwin off on Kett & you or cray logs on to Tarq, I'd know about it.

Sounds like tonight a couple friends n I are goin out to catch a flick. Think we're going to go see that Mr & Mrs Smith movie.

I've gotta get my joysticks re-setup with JtL again one of these days. Picked up a kick-ass setup last fall, but they take a little programming to work correctly. http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/ I've got an old script file for JtL somewhere at home, just gotta dig it up again. Only other thing I want to get is one of those TrackIR setups... I think that'd be pretty sweet for my flight sims, and be interesting in JtL.

Ahhh, wondered what happened to yah. =)

I was able to play a little bit on Wednesday night. Started the "happy empire day" stuff, but got to where Im supposed to go kill rebels for disks (surprise surprise). Took a couple of lvl 78 missions on rori & proceeded to get my ass kicked. I think I could take the guys one on one, but... 2 against 1 I have a little trouble, mostly because Im not sure what shot combinations I should be usin I think. I tried a few different things, but obviously it didna work.

Tried cashing in some of my existing smuggler items, but they wont convert because they were in crates (hopefully they fix that).

Couldnt play last night as we had an unofficial board meeting (Im vice pres of my condo associations board now) last night that lasted til roughly 930. Wont likely be on tonight as Im usually workin til somewhere between 9 & 10. Probably wont be on tomorrow night either... supposed to goto a barbaque thing with some friends & then the night of the 3rd I think we're gunna go out bar hoppin downtown or somethin... gunna be a busy weekend! =)

Damn my schedule is screwed up it's 3am and I'm not even remotely tired.

Got back into things on SWG today- found zib and waffen they helped square me away a bit. Didn't need to respec too much, just kept TK and Fencer- the CUP guide said they'd work well together- fencer as damage dealer and TK as defense so I just kept em. Converted my armor and dug up my few remaining items, so Berowe is ready to rock on Tarq.

I started up another Berowe on Kettemoor, but for some reason he was pingin 1400 or so- where is that damn server? Alaska? Maybe it was a fluke.
Am hoping to get my dude up and running there maybe joinin a big guild and moochin off em a bit- will spend some time this week workin on that- if you have any suggestions let me know. Also what times do ya'll play? I aint got no friends on there anymore :(

My summer is BLANK. Basically sleeping til it's dark out, wearin down my afghan savings bar crawlin boozin and croozin, then hoppin on my PC til it gets light again. At this rate I should accrue enough bad habits to easily get myself flunked out of school when I go mid-sept. Can't wait! 18yr old freshmen bints here I come!

ROTFL Be... sounds like fun to me.

I didnt get home til damn near 930pm my time 2night. Picked up a grill the other day & figured good enough night to have a go at it. Impossible to find freakin honey at the store I went to... managed to spend another 200 bucks on shit for grillin, but Im pretty well set now. Finished eatin an hour or two ago and... damn... not too shabby my first go at it.

Usually Im on.. on a sat night, at a decent hour, but not this weekend. Considering the mustang is due to show up in a few weeks, that may go all to hell anyways, but I doubt it. I'll have to make sure ur on my friends list so I can see when/if you on. Considerin you were combat beforehand, I probably still have a steeper learning curve, but ahh well. On tarq, my houses are located just outside of keren in a familiar lake-front area. Easiest way to get there is take a shuttle to... hell if I can remember the name atm. Think I sent the WP to zib & I know cray's got it... his house is a few feet away.

I'm lovin the grillin too- at our summer mansion we have an outdoor kitchenette where Charles will prepare the odd filet or tenderloin burger. It's quite quaint- we use the fresh vegetables from the on-grounds greenhouse to keep things healthy and the warm homegrown tomatos are just marvelous! I'd recommend you all come over for a visit, you can stay in one of the guesthouses. On friday nights we have a great show where Rita, our Phillipino Slave-Concubine, plays 'hide the banana' onstage in our amphitheatre- good times for all! Cheerio!

What days & times do you play (your time) cray? It's always an hour earlier here & occasionally Im up late, though I don't but usually pop on & off SWG after reading some of my car forums. Since I cant solo for crap on SWG, I usually just end up reading about the latest and greatest mustang crap, get liquored & fall asleep... (hey, there are worse things to do with ones time). If'n ur on once in a while, we might be able to hook up for an evening adventure once in a blue moon.

The key is to make next to nothing and get them knocked up B. Works everytime...

Heya folks. Berowe is a sight to see on Kett. Hehe, chuckling now just thinking of it.

My typical hours are still 9ish-12ish CST. Wifey has mitigated my time down to that window, and maybe only 4-5 times per week.

I'll pop on Kett or Tarq, depending where the peoples are. I just joined Tombstone on Lok cause they were looking for people and that their mayor claims that they have 100% active players in there, no server trades. Figured it was time for some new roots. Woosh is the mayor if you're interested. I think they have regular events. Friday is a PvP event of Imps defending a base against a reb attack - could be interesting.

Been havin a blast the last few days on n off in-game. Kettemoor is an 'alright' server, just wish it was a bit more active- in comparison I logged onto one of the "very heavily" loaded servers and could actually notice the difference.. ahh well everything has its merits I reckon. I'm checking out a PA on kettemoor- called Crimson something CFA- big reb PA, the folks in it I chatted with seemed nice, I'm in a trial period... pfff...

Grinding my way up the ladders- I'm going back to my roots and becoming a squadleader again. It's just as worthless as it has always been and probably 10x harder to get, but I dunna care. FOr some reason they got rid of squadleader xp, so now I have over 7 MILLION pistol XP to master that + the other pistol skills I'm aiming for. Been grinding on dant tryin to milk the group system as much as I can before they nerf it.

speakin of wifes and dant- seems the #1 killer of those hunting groups is 'needy' wives/gfs.... cmon it's JUST a marriage.. pfff

Hehe, I'll join you on Kett. I'd been messing with WoW recently, trying to get some more of my $50 investment back, but, ugh. I'm just not feeling it. Was playing yesterday with some ex-SWG folks (Kauai/Tanc) and ended up putting my toon on follow to theirs with my chin in my palm. Just ain't feeliing it.

Besides, I figured that under the current XP system (ugh, I hope they don't nerf it, it's one of the things I like about the CU!), I'll be ready for my Jedi exit quest in 21 months, playing 4 times per week for 2 hours. :)

Oh, forgot to mention, Be. Also on Bloodfin (Sadac CL52 rifle & Yevke tailor/ID & Naxonai 3322 smuggler pilot), tho not quite as well established. Started there as my brother was there, but then he disappeared. :(
